This is Green Sefton - the service within Sefton Council responsible for looking after around 6,500 hectares of outdoor space. That's around a third of all the outdoor space in the Borough, and the equivalent of 7,800 football pitches.
What We Do
Green Sefton staff carry out many duties, including (but not limited to):
- Monitoring and conserving the unique Sefton coastline, which is home to protected land and wildlife
- Overseeing the Borough's many parks and greenspaces, carrying out tasks from mowing and planting to installing new play equipment
- Looking after Council-managed trees in Sefton (more than 100,000 of them)
- Managing sports facilities and watercourses
- Engaging with the public, ranging from sharing advice with dog owners to leading fantastic nature walks
- Managing allotments and working alongside Allotment Associations across the Borough
- Encouraging volunteering and supporting the many wonderful volunteer groups - with volunteers committing more than 40,000 hours of invaluable work in a year!
- Helping with bookings on the coast, whether it's someone filming a TV series on the stunning shoreline or overseeing a charity event
- Supporting local entries for horticultural awards, including Southport In Bloom - the 2025 Champion of Champions at the RHS Britain In Bloom awards.
